Photo Collage Project Reflection #3: Susan Sontag

This reading was interesting. I have always had a personal interest in photography. That said, growing up, my purpose and concept behind taking photographs were much different than it is now. What was once simply a desperate attempt to capture the essence of daily life has now become yet another way to express myself within the field of design. This reading really brings it all together in regards to photography. Sontag Sets the stage well with the use a clever comparison between Plato’s Cave and photography. I found it interesting how similar Sontag’s analysis is to my own. I enjoy how she dissects what photography means within society. She makes a point throughout, that photography is one of the only ways in which we are able to manipulate time and space. In saying this, she inspires us to question how much photography can actually be trusted?
