to make some interesting points. It is very informative in its layout, and it
maintains consistently thorough. According to the article, ethnography is an
approach to understanding; it is a search for a deeper meaning. Things to look
for include: Norms, Processes, Meaning, What people say and do, How people
solve problems, How people organize things, What roles people assume, What
kinds of stuff people have with them/carry. After explaining that, the article
moves into the nine steps in ethnographic process. These nine steps are:
Define the
problem
-Rethink
the problem
-Define the
context
-Define the
sample
-Make a
game plan
-Enter the
field
-Analyze
and interpret
-Share the
insight
- Define
opportunities
Lastly, the article gives a couple of tips to the reader.
These tips are helpful in knowing what to look for with regards to ethnography:
Observation, Conversation, and capturing data.

This article is also one that explains the meaning of
ethnography among designers. The article states that ethnography is a tool for
better design. It says that designers must have compassion for products for
others. The article talks about how ethnography makes sense of the complex
variety of culture that our world shares. Essentially, ethnography is the
practice of finding the deeper-rooted meaning, and using design to interpret
that meaning. It’s a systematic process. Ethnography allows us to do several things:
Discover meaning, Understand norms, and Make communications powerful, be
worldly, Observe reality, and Identify barriers. The last subject that the
article talks about are the steps in ethnography research. These are, define
the problem, find the people, plan an approach, collect data analyze
data/interpret opportunities, share insight. Similarly to the last few
articles, this article contains good ideas and honest advice.
